Pingyuan County Red Army Memorial Park is a classic red tourism destination.

Covering an area of 200 acres, Pingyuan County Red Army Memorial Park includes a main exhibition hall area, a thematic sculpture area, memorial pavilions, and leisure sightseeing zones. The main exhibition hall area (the Fourth Red Army Memorial Hall), spanning 810 square meters, is divided into six sections and twenty-three units. It uses texts, artifacts, and photographs to comprehensively depict the birth of the Fourth Red Army on Jinggang Mountain, its three visits to Pingyuan, and its role in helping establish a county-level red political power in Pingyuan. Both the park name and the hall name were inscribed by Ye Xuanping, former Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

During the Second Revolutionary Civil War period, Zhu De, Chen Yi, and Lin Biao led the Fourth Red Army to reach Renju in Pingyuan three times—in November 1929 and May 1930—providing crucial support and protection for the critical tasks of safeguarding Comrade Mao Zedong’s investigative work in Xunwu and securing provisions and funds for the Red Army. To better commemorate revolutionary martyrs, carry forward the spirit of the Red Army, and preserve historical sites, Pingyuan County built the “First Theme Park in Eastern Guangdong Dedicated to the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army.” It has since become a municipal-level patriotic and revolutionary tradition education base and a key attraction in red tourism.

The memorial park spans 200 acres and houses four functional areas: the main exhibition hall area, the thematic sculpture area, the memorial pavilion, the memorial tower, and the leisure sightseeing zone. It also preserves the former sites of the Fourth Red Army’s headquarters, political department, political commissar’s residence, quartermaster office, logistics office, as well as numerous Red Army slogan walls. A wealth of texts, photographs, and artifacts vividly illustrate the birth of the Fourth Red Army, its three entries into Pingyuan, and the establishment of the Pingyuan Red political power.

This memorial park is the first in Guangdong dedicated to commemorating the history of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army. It is now recognized as a municipal-level patriotic education base in Meizhou and a red tourism demonstration site in Guangdong Province.
