Meizhou Confucius Temple

Meizhou Confucius Temple is located in front of the Old Examination Hall at Nanmen on Lingfeng West Road, Meizhou City. It faces south and was first built in the first year of the Chunyou era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1241), serving as the highest educational institution in Meizhou at the time. In the 17th year of the Zhiyuan era of the Yuan Dynasty (1280), it was destroyed during wartime. It was rebuilt and expanded in the 2nd year of the Yuanshun era (1296), beginning to take shape. However, it suffered multiple destructions over the years, undergoing several reconstructions and expansions. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, the temple complex included: the Dacheng Hall, Minglun Hall, Wenchang Hall, Chongsheng Shrine, Lingxing Gate, East and West Side Halls, the Office of the Instructor, Jimen (Gate of Spears), Kuixing Tower, Pan Pond, and the Arch Bridge. The Dacheng Hall features a double-eaved, hip-and-gable roof, with a width of three bays and a depth of four bays, surrounded by an outer corridor, covering a construction area of over 300 square meters. A central staircase is set on the terrace in front of the hall. The East and West Side Halls have flush gable roofs with gray tile roofing.

In 1987, it was designated as a cultural relics protection unit by the People's Government of Meixian District. It was demolished in 2004.
