Chongyu Building

Chongyu Building is a three-sided enclosed revolving corridor building built on a high platform base, adapting to the mountain terrain, with a second floor connected to the pillow house. It features a hanging gable roof, recessed gatehouse, rammed earth construction, gray tile roofing, and a timber-earth-stone structure. Oriented from northwest to southeast, it covers a land area of 600 square meters and a building area of 1,025 square meters, comprising 37 rooms in total and is currently well-preserved. It was built by brothers Ren Guogong and Ding Langgong from the 18th generation, funded by remittances sent back from their successful ventures in Indonesia. It was constructed slightly later than the Niujiao House but still boasts a history of 120 years.

Currently, eight people still reside in Chongyu Building, while over 300 have moved away, making it a typical large family where “the taro tubers outgrow the main plant.” The emigrant population is distributed across Hong Kong, Australia, the United States, Indonesia, Taiwan, and other regions. According to family records, descendants who have moved out from Chongyu Building number over 700, including more than 30 university graduates.

When Chongyu Building was constructed, two “spring-reporting plum trees” were planted atop the Five Directions Dragon God Platform. These trees were about two meters tall, with trunks roughly 20 centimeters in diameter—approximately the thickness of a rice bowl. Unfortunately, they withered in the 1980s.

On the left side of Chongyu Building is an ancient well with a diameter of over one meter and a depth of more than three meters. It has abundant water, clear and sweet-tasting quality. Nowadays, people prefer not to carry water from the well, as each household has installed their own hand-pumped wells for convenience. There are a total of three such wells.

Xiyang Town: Located in the southeastern part of Meijiang District, Xiyang Town borders YanYang Town of Meixian District and Dabu County to the east, neighbors the Dongsheng Industrial Park of Meizhou City to the west, adjoins Bingcun Town of Meixian District to the northeast, and shares a boundary with Fengshun County to the southeast. In 2003, the former Baiwu Town was merged into Xiyang Town. In 2013, it came under the jurisdiction of Meijiang District from Meixian District. The town government is now located in Xiyang Township. The total area of the town is 272.5 square kilometers, comprising 27 administrative villages and 3 neighborhood committees, with a total population of 35,000.
