Meizhou’s Two Riversides

The Meizhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government have attached great importance to flood control. Since 1993, they have undertaken comprehensive improvement projects along the two riversides, investing substantial funds to construct riverbanks according to high standards designed to withstand a “once-in-a-century” flood. Along both banks, traditional-style corridors, cultural promenades, Roman-style arcades, cultural squares, and riverside roads have been built, presenting a fresh urban landscape of greenery amidst the city, water within the urban fabric, azure waters against the blue sky, and an overall picturesque environment. Soaring above are six major bridges—the Meijiang Bridge, Jiaying Bridge, Dongshan Bridge, Meizhou Bridge, Jianying Memorial Bridge, and Xiulan Bridge—along with the Delong Bridge at the confluence of the Chengjiang and Meijiang Rivers, all resembling rainbows that blend beautifully with the shimmering waters of the Meijiang River, creating an elegant and serene panorama of “greenery amidst the city, water within the urban fabric,” where endless blue waters meet the sky in a harmonious and idyllic setting.
