Introduction

Karnak Temple is located 5 kilometers north of Luxor and is the most spectacular temple complex left by the ancient Egyptian Empire. Renowned worldwide for its immense scale, its preserved sections alone cover an area of over 30 hectares. The Karnak Temple complex consists of three main parts—the Temple of Amun, dedicated to the sun god Amun, the Temple of Mut, dedicated to Amun’s wife, the goddess of war, and the Temple of Montu. A processional avenue lined with sphinxes connects the complex directly to Luxor Temple. The entire site includes over 20 large and small shrines. The courtyard features a towering pylon gate that is 44 meters high and 131 meters wide. The Great Hypostyle Hall spans 102 meters in width and 53 meters in depth, housing 134 massive stone columns that create an awe-inspiring and majestic atmosphere. The largest 12 of these columns stand 23 meters tall and have a circumference of 15 meters, wide enough to accommodate 50 people standing on top. In the evening, there is a sound and light show where colorful lights illuminate the ruins, accompanied by narration and music that bring to life scenes from the daily lives of the ancient Egyptians.  Admission/Opening Hours: Admission: 20 Egyptian pounds, half price for students. Entertainment: Sound and light show 33 Egyptian pounds. Visiting hours: 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
