Medinet Habu

Introduction Medinet Habu is the mortuary temple of Ramesses III. During the Coptic period, a fairly large city existed here. The temple is relatively well preserved and is the second-largest in area after the Temple of Amun. It represents the last major construction project of the pharaonic era and serves as a monument to Egypt’s final period of prosperity. Originally a royal residence, the first courtyard was used for ceremonies and entertainment, while the second courtyard was occupied by churches during the Ptolemaic and Roman periods. In addition, there are three hypostyle halls, with the tomb chamber of Ramesses III located on the outer left side of the second hall. The outer walls of the temple feature famous panoramic reliefs.
