Mount Elgon was formed by volcanic activity and lies on the border between Uganda and Kenya in the northeastern part of Lake Victoria. It has a diameter of 80 kilometers and covers an area of 3,500 square kilometers. The mountain features five major peaks with elevations of 4,321 meters, 4,302 meters, 4,222 meters, 4,211 meters, and 4,161 meters respectively, and is one of the most prominent mountain ranges in the region.

Mount Elgon still retains its pristine natural beauty, boasting a rich variety of landscapes and numerous rare wild animals. The area is characterized by steep mountains, dense forests, winding streams meandering cheerfully through the valleys, and waterfalls cascading vigorously down the high cliffs. All these elements bring a vibrant charm to this tranquil mountain, making it a prime destination for hunting, grazing, hiking, sightseeing, and exploration. Along the hiking trails, you’ll encounter diverse landforms such as waterfalls, lakes, caves, canyons, and hot springs, allowing you to enjoy the unique mountain scenery of Africa while climbing. However, visitors should note that the best seasons for hiking are generally the dry months from June to August and December to March. Reaching the main craters and peaks requires a guide, and no particularly specialized gear or skills are necessary.
