Lake Bunyonyi

Lake Bunyonyi is located in the Bundibugyo District of western Uganda, just 7 kilometers from the district’s famous town of Kabale and bordering Rwanda. The lake stretches 25 kilometers in length and 7 kilometers in width, and is one of the few water bodies in the region free of bilharzia, making it a popular spot for water sports nearby.

Situated at an elevation of 1,962 meters, Lake Bunyonyi is tightly surrounded by mountains ranging from 2,200 to 2,478 meters above sea level. Many of these mountains have been terraced, not only bringing bountiful harvests to local communities but also creating one of the most distinctive scenic highlights among the hills. The area around Lake Bunyonyi is a paradise for travelers in southwestern Uganda, offering captivating landscapes, unique living environments, and delicious cuisine. It also provides a wide range of activities such as hiking, boating, swimming, bird watching, and enjoying local folk performances—making it an ideal getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life to find tranquility, connect with nature, and unwind.
