Murchison Falls

Murchison Falls, also known as "Victoria Falls," is located within Murchison Falls National Park in the northwest of Masindi. It is named after the British geologist Roderick Murchison.

Murchison Falls cuts through the Victoria Nile River, standing 43 meters high and 7 meters wide, with a flow rate of 300 cubic meters per second, eventually emptying into Lake Albert. The river narrows to just 7 meters wide before plunging over the falls. As the water flows down from the 43-meter-high cliff, it first passes through a 7-meter-deep rock pool, so when the river cascades down the waterfall, the previously calm waters produce a deafening roar, creating an awe-inspiring and majestic spectacle. Beneath the falls lives Uganda’s largest population of crocodiles, making it one of the best places to observe them.
