Ulan Butong Scenic Area

The grassland stretches as far as the eye can see, the forest resonates with the rustling of pine waves, and the small river flows gently. Historical sites such as the military commanding platform where Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty fought against Galdan and the Twelve Camps are still faintly visible. Forty-one Mongolian yurts are arranged in a V-shape, uniquely designed to welcome visitors from all directions. In winter, the landscape is covered in silvery white, with an average snow accumulation of 300mm and a snow cover lasting up to five months, making it a paradise for skiing enthusiasts. The Ulan Butong Ancient Battlefield is located on the southern edge of the Hunshandake Desert in the southwest of the region. At the border where the desert meets the grassland, a peak rises abruptly, reaching into the vast sky. Emperor Kangxi deployed 200,000 troops to engage Galdan in a great battle here. To the northeast of Ulan Butong Peak, the sand is as white as snow, with birch and red willows appearing emerald or crimson. To the southwest of the peak, the Nalan Gong River winds around the mountain. In front of the peak lies General's Pool (where the Qing Dynasty General Tong Guogang died in battle), spanning about a thousand acres. To the east lies Saihanba, a renowned grassland on the plateau, where the Twelve Camps and the Military Commanding Platform are also located. The Ulan Butong Tourism Development Zone currently features eight scenic areas: the Ulan Butong Ancient Battlefield, film and television shooting locations, Colorful Mountain, Elephant Group Mountain, and Jiapi Gully.
