Mongolian Khan City
Introduction: The Mongolian Khan City is situated in the heart of the most magnificent Xiwuzhumuqin Grassland on the vast Xilingol Grassland, and is a national AAA-level tourist attraction. It is located 15 kilometers south of Balagai Gaole Town in Xiwuzhumuqin Banner, at the 208-kilometer point of the S204 highway between Xilinhot and Chifeng, 15 kilometers from Bayan Ula, the seat of the banner government, 115 kilometers from Linxi Station on the Jitong Railway, and 96 kilometers from the Arshihaty National Geopark. The Mongolian Khan City primarily offers cultural sightseeing, leisure entertainment, and grassland experiences centered around Mongolian heritage. The overall layout is designed based on the Khan City where Genghis Khan was crowned. The entire scenic area is divided into the central zone, western zone, and eastern zone. The architectural style follows that of Mongolian tribal settlements during the era of Genghis Khan in the Yuan Dynasty, mainly consisting of a complex of yurts centered around a golden-roofed grand tent. A fixed, multi-functional golden-roofed grand yurt serves as the venue for comprehensive entertainment activities; additionally, there are over 100 yurts available for receiving tourists for dining and accommodation. Every day at noon, classical Mongolian song and dance performances are held; in the afternoon, activities such as wrestling, Naadam horse racing, horseback riding, and camel riding take place; in the evening, there are bonfire parties with song and dance performances. Strolling through the Mongolian Khan City, embraced by blue skies and white clouds, accompanied by the green breeze, visitors can enjoy the serene and beautiful grassland scenery. They can also participate in recreational activities such as horseback riding, camel riding, riding a wooden cart (leleche), archery, and grassland golf, while experiencing the simple and authentic local customs.
The best travel season is from mid-May to the end of September. Summers here are about 15 degrees cooler than in Beijing, with large temperature differences between day and night, making it an ideal summer retreat from the heat. Dining / Accommodation / Shopping: The focus is on traditional Mongolian cuisine, such as whole roasted lamb, roasted lamb leg, roasted lamb back, fried rice, milk tea, hand-held lamb, milk tofu, sheep blood sausage, mare’s milk, and milk wine, paired with wild grassland vegetables such as mushrooms, fiddlehead ferns, and daylilies. There are also various vegetable dishes suitable for visitors from all regions.
