Lipizzaner Stud Farm
In the Karst region of southwestern Slovenia, besides the spectacular caves, there is another source of pride for Slovenians—the Lipizzaner Stud Farm, the home of the world-renowned Lipizzaner horse breed. The Lipizzaner is the result of crossbreeding local horses with various other superior breeds, known for its endurance, intelligence, and trainability. Lipizzaners are often used as military horses or by the Spanish Riding School.
Today, the Lipizzaner Stud Farm serves as a tourist and leisure center, featuring an equestrian school that is open to visitors year-round. It is also the venue for internationally renowned traditional equestrian competitions. Visitors can enjoy dressage performances, take carriage rides, or even try riding a Lipizzaner themselves. Nearby, there is also a golf course and a hotel with an entertainment complex, making summer the best time to visit the Lipizzaner Stud Farm.
