This prison located in Ljubljana, Slovenia,(Ljubljana)was in use from1883until it was abandoned after Slovenia gained independence in1991. In2003, a local student organization transformed the site into a youth hostel, applying bright, eye-catching paint to shed its formerly dark and heavy appearance. With its unique background and quirky style, the hostel attracts large numbers of young backpackers every year.
