Predjama Castle is located in south-central Slovenia, just 11 kilometers from Postojna, and is a distinctive castle built at the mouth of a cave on a cliff. The location of this castle is extremely unique — perched at the mouth of a cave halfway up a cliff face, it resembles a fairy-tale palace.

First-time visitors to Predjama Castle can’t help but marvel at what looks like a castle straight out of a storybook. The cliff on which the castle stands is 123 meters high, and it’s hard to imagine how the builders managed to construct it there. The castle was first mentioned in 1274. The original structure was built in the Gothic style, while the current castle dates back to 1570 and was constructed in the Renaissance style. Its design has remained unchanged since its completion. A mysterious passageway leads into the castle, which was later expanded to also provide access to the Postojna Cave.

Thanks to its unique location and elegant silhouette, Predjama Castle has been featured as a filming location. In 1987, parts of the movie “Armour of God II: Operation Condor,” starring Jackie Chan, Alan Tam, Rosamund Kwan, and Lola Forner, were shot here.
