Butcher's Bridge is located in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. It is a pedestrian bridge that spans the Ljubljanica River and was officially opened in 2010. The first time you hear its name, it may sound a bit unbelievable — how could such a beautiful bridge have such an unrefined name? Its name comes from a bronze statue of a butcher on the bridge, which is said to have once faced a meat stall at the Central Market.

The idea of building the bridge emerged in the 1930s but was not realized until 2010. Designed by a renowned Slovenian architect, the bridge is adorned with sculptures created by well-known artists. Since its opening to pedestrians, couples have been hanging love locks on the bridge’s chains. Over time, the growing number of love locks has become a beautiful and decorative highlight of the bridge. Nowadays, many couples from Slovenia visit the bridge specifically to attach a love lock to it, then throw the key into the river, hoping their love will last forever.
