Prague Castle

Introduction Prague Castle is situated on a hill above the Vltava River and is a symbol of Prague. Constructed in the 9th century, its real name is Hradčany and it is also referred to as the Presidential Palace. It is arguably the most magnificent ancient castle complex in European history, built in the Gothic style and comprising churches, palaces, and gardens. The complex spans 45 hectares and includes one palace, three churches, one monastery, all distributed across three courtyards. For centuries, it has been the seat of Czech royalty and today remains the home of the President and various state institutions. The most important site, St. Vitus Cathedral, is the oldest part of the city, with a history of over 1,000 years.

The main attractions within the castle include St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica, Golden Lane, the Powder Tower, and various art galleries.

Transportation Take tram number 22 to the Prazsky hrad stop, or you can walk up the stone steps from Charles Bridge, passing by St. Nicholas Church and the Loreto Shrine. Address: Prague Castle
