St. George's Church, Prague

St. George's Church (St. George's Basilica, Prague) is the oldest church in Prague Castle. It was founded in 920 by Duke Vladislav I of Bohemia, and the Benedictine St. George's Convent was added in 973. It was rebuilt after a major fire in 1142, and its Baroque façade was constructed in the late 17th century. The Gothic Chapel of St. Ludmila houses the remains of the saint, and Duke Vladislav and King Boleslav II are also buried here.

St. George's Church is located behind St. Vitus Cathedral. Despite multiple expansions and renovations, it still retains the church’s original foundations and two spires. It now serves as part of the National Gallery Prague, housing 19th-century Bohemian art, and is also used as a concert hall. To reach the church, take tram 22 to the Prazsky hrad stop in Prague, or take metro line A (green line) to Malostranska or Hradcanska station, walk across Charles Bridge, ascend the stone steps, pass St. Vitus Cathedral, and you will see St. George's Church.
