Prague Zoo

Prague Zoo opened to the public in 1931, with its primary mission being “to advance biological research, protect wildlife, and educate the public.” The park spans 45 hectares and is home to 4,400 animals of 670 species from around the world. The zoo has made significant contributions to the rescue of Przewalski's horses, having been the world’s largest breeding site for them for many years. In 2007, Forbes Traveler magazine listed Prague Zoo as one of the best zoos in the world.

Prague Zoo is divided into several exhibition halls and zones, which can barely be fully explored even with a full day of walking. At the end of 2004, the zoo newly opened a unique and unprecedented Indonesian Rainforest exhibit, covering an area of 2,200 square meters, where visitors can experience the tropics of Southeast Asia along with iconic animals such as orangutans, and the globally rare Komodo dragon. The nearby African Panorama exhibit is also highly attractive. In April 2009, a new exhibition area called the “Children’s Zoo” opened, where kids can find domestic animals including goats, sheep, pigs, miniature horses, rabbits, chickens, ducks, and geese.

From October to March, if the weather is good, the zoo always thoughtfully hosts special animal feeding events on weekends, allowing children to see firsthand how zoo staff interact closely with these animals—such as penguins, gorillas, Bactrian camels, moose, hippos, and even tigers, lions, penguins, pelicans, and kangaroos—or watch the training of sea lions and elephant bathing sessions.
