Kampa Island is a tranquil and pleasant corner formed in the late 19th century when a branch of the Vltava River — known as the “Devil’s Stream” — flowing through Prague divided the city’s districts. It lies quietly in the heart of Prague’s bustling urban area.

The small Kampa Island is undoubtedly one of the least frequented places by tourists. Although most of the buildings on the island are not particularly famous, they give off an exceptionally elegant and relaxed vibe, making it an ideal spot for travelers to escape the crowds and the overwhelming sightseeing spots, and to find a moment of peace and reflection. Additionally, if you walk along the riverside toward the park, you can enjoy a rather beautiful view of Prague’s cityscape, and the sunlit, increasingly lush green grass in the park further soothes and calms the mind.

Many say that this island is the most romantic part of Prague. It is so enchanting that it almost doesn’t seem real. Fans of The Beatles know this place because of “John Winston Lennon” — the island is covered with poems and songs left by visitors from all over the world in memory of the late singer.

The most famous building on Kampa Island is the “Grand Priory Water Mill.” Here, you can still see the ancient waterwheel of the mill, powered by the stream, slowly turning as if whispering its old and fascinating stories. On both banks of the stream are charming miniature houses dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, earning the island the nickname “Venice of Prague.”
