Tallinn Kazan Mother of God Church is a small Russian Orthodox church built in 1721, and is the oldest wooden church in Tallinn. It was also the first complete church constructed in the early 18th century following Estonia’s resistance during the Northern War against the Russian Tsar.

After the war, an increasing number of Russian immigrants settled in the suburbs of Tallinn. With the growing immigrant population, there was a need for more suburban churches like the Kazan Mother of God Church. The icon of the Kazan Mother of God is the most revered in Russian Orthodoxy, representing the Virgin Mary as the protector of the city of Kazan. For centuries, she has been regarded as the patron saint of Russia, and countless Kazan Cathedrals have been built across Russian lands in her honor. In the 19th century, the exterior and interior of Tallinn’s Kazan Mother of God Church were completely renovated in the neoclassical style. The Orthodox church housed here belongs to the Moscow Patriarchate.
