Immerse yourself in it to sample authentic Thai cuisine and get a taste of local living. Backpackers especially love Bangkok, which boasts many floating markets. Talinchan Floating Market (Ta Ling Chan Floating Market) was originally a fruit market, but as weekend visitors gradually increased, it also began selling food and daily goods. It may not be the most famous floating market, but if you're looking to explore one that only locals and backpackers frequent, Talinchan is one such place. It takes about an hour to reach from downtown.

Before arriving at Talinchan Floating Market, you’ll pass a long covered street lined with food and shopping stalls. The variety of local snacks on display is overwhelming — red, green, sweet, savory, fried, cold mixed, chilled… it’s a feast for the eyes. Don’t worry if you can’t read Thai — most stalls list prices, so just pick something and give it a try. Here you’ll find common treats like tapioca pudding and Thai milk tea, as well as unique desserts like pumpkin wrapped around egg yolk. For savory options, there’s fried tofu, cold papaya salad, and rice noodle soup, among others. Beyond food, you’ll also find vendors selling fresh produce, seafood, and beauty products — all worth exploring.
