The Town Hall Square is large and slightly diamond-shaped, serving as the soul of medieval Tallinn. The only remaining Gothic building in Northern Europe—the Town Hall—stands here. There are many historic sites around the square, including an old pharmacy that has been open since 1422 and the Lutheran Holy Spirit Church built in 1433, which was a place where Danish immigrants preached to the native Estonians, bringing Western European culture to Tallinn. Strolling through the alleys of the old town, you may hear heavenly music played by the organ of the nearby Niguliste Church—an iconic church of the 13th-century German community in the area.
