Whether they fly in the sky or roam on the ground, you can find them all at Tallinn Zoo. Established in 1939, this zoo spans an 87-hectare strip of forested land and is the only zoo in Estonia. By 2008, Tallinn Zoo was home to 619 species and 7,158 animals, making it one of the largest zoos in Northern Europe.

Tallinn Zoo boasts the world’s largest collection of goats and sheep, as well as the highest number of eagles and owls gathered in one place. The zoo is home to animals including rhinos, vultures, camels, polar bears, pythons, lions, bison, and over a hundred other species. You can also visit the Tropical House to see crocodiles, fish, meerkats, rare birds, and chimpanzees, or head to the Elephant House to observe American elephants, pygmy hippos, degus, and various snakes. Alternatively, explore the Central Asian Complex to see Przewalski’s horses, Bactrian camels, American bison, and yaks. Tallinn Zoo houses some of the finest breeds of goats and sheep in the world, but the real stars are the extremely rare Amur leopards—only 30 to 35 remain in the world. Kids are sure to love Tallinn Zoo, and it’s definitely worth a visit.
