Tallinn TV Tower

The Tallinn TV Tower is an independent, multi-story structure with an observation deck. Its foundation was laid on September 30, 1975, and it began operations on July 11, 1980. The tower was primarily built to provide improved communication services for the sailing events of the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympic Games. It is situated in the Pirita district of Tallinn, approximately 6 kilometers northeast of the city center.

Designed by architects David Baziladze and Juri Sinis, the Tallinn TV Tower stands 314 meters tall. Its structure is reinforced with 50-centimeter-thick reinforced concrete rings, and the tower weighs a total of 2,000 tons. The observation deck is located on the 21st floor, 170 meters above the ground, and has a diameter of 38 meters. Since November 26, 2007, the tower has been closed to the public for interior renovation.

When the 314-meter-tall Tallinn TV Tower reopened in the spring of 2012, it quickly became one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions. In addition to enjoying panoramic views from its observation deck and sipping coffee, visitors can explore its sci-fi-inspired interiors and interactive exhibits. These displays showcase the history of the Tallinn TV Tower and Estonia’s renowned high-tech exports, with the tour concluding with a hands-on experience in a television studio.
