Estonian Maritime Museum

The Estonian Maritime Museum is housed within Fat Margaret Tower in Tallinn’s Old Town. Originally constructed as part of the city's coastal defense system in the early 16th century during the rebuilding of the medieval gate, this circular tower boasts 155 gunports, a diameter of 25 meters, a height of 20 meters, and walls that are 5 meters thick. Throughout various historical periods, Fat Margaret Tower has served multiple roles, including a warehouse for firearms and weapons, a prison for detainees, and now, the Estonian Maritime Museum.

The Estonian Maritime Museum showcases Estonia’s shipbuilding history and maritime heritage. In addition, the museum complex includes the Seaplane Harbour Museum and the Mining Museum. The exhibitions feature naval vessels such as the WWII-era submarine Lembit, the patrol vessel Jüri, the minelayerFrauenlob, coastal patrol boats used by the Coast Guard, and the 1914-built steam icebreaker Suur Tõll. Visitors can explore an extensive display of Estonia’s maritime equipment across different historical eras. Additionally, guests can climb to the observation deck at the top of the tower for panoramic views of the Old Town and the bay.
