You haven’t truly been to Tallinn until you’ve visited the magnificent northern Baroque-style Kadriorg Palace. This palace was built in 1718 by Russian Tsar Peter the Great for his wife, Empress Catherine. The design was by Italian architect Niccolo Michetti, and the structure features Baroque architecture, with its grand palace and well-manicured lawns serving as a reflection of the extravagance of the Russian imperial era. Today, Kadriorg Palace houses the Kadriorg Art Museum, one of the branches of the Art Museum of Estonia, which mainly features international artworks.

A large collection of foreign fine art from the Art Museum of Estonia is housed within Kadriorg Palace, making it a highly worthwhile attraction to visit. The Kadriorg Art Museum displays over a hundred paintings from Western and Russian artists dating from the 16th to the 20th century, along with a selection of prints, sculptures, and other works. During your visit, don’t miss the double-height hall of the palace — although it hasn’t been restored, its exquisitely designed ceiling frescoes have been freshly painted and are definitely worth seeing. You can also view the former office of the Head of Government of Estonia.
