Tallinn is located in the southern part of the Gulf of Finland in the Baltic Sea, on the northern coast of Estonia, and serves as the capital of Estonia. Historically, the city was once a vital hub connecting Central and Eastern Europe with Northern and Southern Europe, earning it the title "Crossroads of Europe." It is now Estonia’s largest port city.

Thanks to its location surrounded by water on three sides, its beautiful and historic scenery, cool and dry springs, and warm, humid summers and autumns, Tallinn is an important tourist destination along the Baltic Sea and the only city in Northern Europe that retains a medieval appearance and atmosphere. The main attractions of Tallinn are its two ancient districts: the Lower Town and Toompea Hill. The Old Town is compact and can be explored entirely on foot. The Lower Town is considered one of Europe’s best-preserved old towns, with key sights including Town Hall Square, the medieval city walls and towers, and St. Olaf’s Church. Toompea Hill was once home to Estonian nobility and bishops and is the most defensible part of the city. Major attractions here include the city walls, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral of the Orthodox faith, and Tallinn Cathedral.

The Pirita district and Kadriorg in eastern Tallinn are also worth visiting; the Estonian Open Air Museum in western Tallinn preserves the cultural and architectural heritage of rural Estonia.
