The Palace of Culture and Science (Palace of Culture and Science, Warsaw) is officially known as the Joseph Stalin Palace of Culture and Science. It was designed by Soviet architect Lev Rudnev. The Palace of Culture and Science is one of the most iconic buildings in Warsaw. Much like the Statue of Liberty, it was a "gift" from the Soviet Union to the People's Republic of Poland (not the current Poland, which is officially the Republic of Poland). Located next to Warsaw’s railway station, the building features the “Russian–Soviet style.”

Constructed in 1952, the Palace took three years to complete, finishing in 1955. It remains the tallest building in Poland to this day, standing at 231 meters with 42 floors. In addition to housing the Museum of Science and Technology, it also boasts a grand hall, three theaters and a cinema, bookstores, conference halls, and over 3,000 individual rooms, making it a major venue for cultural and artistic exhibitions in Warsaw. From the observation deck on the 30th floor, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the entire city of Warsaw.

A large clock has been installed on the tower of the Palace of Culture and Science. The clock chimes every hour on the hour according to Warsaw time. When it was first built, the sound of the clock echoed throughout Warsaw and became a cherished memory for a generation of Varsovians. However, as the city developed, the chimes gradually faded into the background. On January 1, 2009, after chiming in the New Year, the clock permanently ceased its hourly ringing, marking the end of an era for the Palace’s iconic timekeeper.
