Polish Army Museum

The Polish Army Museum was established in 1920 and is the largest military museum in Poland. Located in the capital city of Warsaw, it is the second-largest museum in the city, primarily documenting and showcasing various aspects of Polish military history.

The Polish Army Museum showcases nearly a thousand years of Polish military history, from the 10th century to World War II. The museum building occupies a wing of the National Museum of Poland, and its front courtyard displays dozens of large military vehicles, artillery pieces, aircraft, and other heavy military equipment. Most of these items date back to World War II and include military gear from the Soviet Union, the West, and Poland.

The museum focuses on displaying Poland’s military history since the 10th century, especially the powerful Polish army of the 17th century. Some rooms are dedicated to Poland’s involvement in the Napoleonic Wars, as well as the uprisings of 1830–1831 and 1863. To date, the majority of the museum’s exhibition spaces are devoted to 20th-century warfare, particularly World War II. Among the museum’s highlights is an extremely rare 10th-century gilded helmet, which is said to have been worn exclusively by Polish military commanders. Other notable items include ornate hussar armor, considered fine examples of Western armor antiques.
