Wolong Mountain is the largest main mountain range around Jining and serves as the western ecological barrier of the Jining District. Covering an area of 15 square kilometers, the project commenced construction in 2010. Through techniques such as filling valleys to create hills and carving rock to cover with soil, a total of 800,000 evergreen trees, 300,000 deciduous trees, and 3.35 million shrubs (bushes) were planted. Sixteen deep gullies and large pits were filled, 595 small, medium, and large earth-and-stone check dams were built, along with 42 kilometers of engineering access roads. A 1,000-cubic-meter high-elevation water storage reservoir was constructed, as well as two 200-cubic-meter high-elevation reservoirs. National Highway 110 divides Wolong Mountain into northern and southern sections. The southern part of Wolong Mountain was previously a quarrying site for the Jining District. During the project, 8 million cubic meters of abandoned railway tunnel soil were used to fill gullies and cover the land, and a soil and water conservation afforestation project was implemented. The northern part of Wolong Mountain serves as a voluntary tree-planting base for cadres from both city and district government agencies. A mechanism of “unified planning, unified digging of pits, unified provision of seedlings, with each unit responsible for planting, survival rate, and maintenance” was adopted, making it a base for cadres to participate in labor and transform work styles. After remediation, the rocky mountain became an earthen one, the earthen mountain turned green, the green mountain became a landscape, and the barren mountain became a thing of the past. Various geological disasters and soil erosion have been effectively curbed, the ecological environment has greatly improved, and the social and ecological benefits are significant. Soil and water conservation and environmental protection have achieved a win-win outcome...
