Joanneum State Museum
Attraction Introduction
The Joanneum State Museum (Altes and Neues Joanneum), built in 1811, was the first museum in Austria open to the public. It originally displayed a collection donated by Archduke Johann to the region of Styria. Over time, it gradually expanded in scale, and today it has become Austria’s largest state museum, with 19 exhibition halls covering a wide range of topics including culture, sports, art, wildlife, and more.
