Japanese hotel chain "Gracery" to enter Taiwan, expected to open in 2019

Fujita Kanko Inc., which operates over 70 hotels and leisure facilities across Japan — including Tokyo's Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo, the Washington Hotel Group, and Hakone Kowakien Tenyu — is set to enter Taiwan’s hotel market. In 2019, it will open its first hotel in Taiwan, the "Gracery Taipei Hotel" (tentative name).

Those who frequently travel to Japan (especially Tokyo) will likely be familiar with the Washington Hotel. The Gracery brand is a new line launched by Fujita Kanko Inc. in October 2008, positioned as a more upscale alternative to the Washington Hotel. There are currently five Gracery hotels in Japan, and the opening of Gracery Taipei is aimed at the over one million Japanese tourists who visit Taiwan each year.

Speaking of Gracery hotels, one must mention the Gracery Shinjuku Hotel, which opened in 2015. Located in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, you can see Godzilla looming beside the building from afar. The hotel offers a Godzilla-themed room and a view room. The themed room immerses you in the movie experience, with special walls displaying cinematic effects. If you want to feel like the entire city of Tokyo is part of the movie scene, book the view room — you’ll see a giant Godzilla peering at you through the window with its enormous eyes.
