Aarhus Art Museum

The Aarhus Art Museum (ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum) is located in the Danish port city of Aarhus. Situated on a slope, a winding passageway runs through the interior, connecting other public buildings on either side of the structure, breaking up the regular red-brick box appearance. This winding passageway also divides the entire 10-story museum internally, creating an inner street (exhibition corridor) and two major zones, covering a construction area of 17,000 square meters and costing 12 million euros.

The Aarhus Art Museum officially opened on April 8, 2004. It was built by Schmidt Hammer & Lassen and is mainly divided into three major exhibition areas: the Danish Golden Age 1770–1900 exhibition area, the Danish Modern Art 1900–1960 exhibition area, and the Contemporary Art exhibition area.

Interestingly, after the building was completed, the Aarhus municipal authorities requested renovations to enhance the iconic status of the Aarhus Art Museum. Rather than designing the renovation alone, Schmidt Hammer & Lassen invited Danish artist Ólafur Elíasson to collaborate, resulting in the famous "Your Rainbow Panorama" roof corridor installation. The colors appear different from various viewing angles. The circular corridor is constructed with translucent colored glass that filters daylight. Walking at a normal pace, visitors typically take about four minutes to traverse the 150-meter walkway and experience the full spectrum of colors.
