Carreg Cennen Castle is located in the small village of Trapp in Carmarthenshire, Wales, near the River Cennen. The castle sits within the renowned Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales and looks spectacular as it perches precariously on a 91-meter-high limestone cliff. Before reaching the castle at the hilltop, you can imagine just how hard it would have been to conquer this fortress.

Carreg Cennen Castle was ruined during the Wars of the Roses in 1462 and was subsequently abandoned, becoming a castle ruin. Legend has it that one of King Arthur’s knights lies buried beneath. Today, the castle ruins are managed by Cadw, the Welsh historic environment service, and are open to visitors from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM between April and October. Within the ruins, you can see the sturdy walls and towering courtyard, featuring six uniquely shaped towers, along with remnants of defensive stonework. You can even take a torch to explore the castle dungeon. Standing atop the hill where the Carreg Cennen Castle ruins lie offers breathtaking views of the unique Welsh countryside.
