Swansea Museum

Swansea Museum is located in the city of Swansea, Wales, and can be regarded as the oldest museum in Wales. The building housing the museum was established in 1841 as the Royal Institution of South Wales and features neoclassical architectural style. It has been listed as a Grade II historic building in the UK.

Unlike many museums that house all their exhibitions in one place, Swansea Museum has four separate sites: a collection centre in Landore, a barge at the docks, a tram centre and the museum itself in Dylan Thomas Square. The museum’s collection is extremely diverse, ranging from historic ships and ancient mummies to fine Swansea porcelain and temporary exhibitions on current affairs and modern issues, providing valuable resources for researching Swansea's history and future development. The museum also has a library related to its collections, with books dating back to the 19th century. Visitors can enter Swansea Museum for free. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday: 10:00am–5:00pm.
