Aberystwyth, also known as Aber, is located in central Wales and is a port city in the Ceredigion district of the Dyfed region. It is a renowned university town as well as a historic hub town. Since the 19th century, the area has been an important educational center in Wales—for instance, Aberystwyth University was founded in 1872, the world’s first Department of International Politics was established here in 1919, and the National Library of Wales was built in 1955.

This is a historic town built around a 13th-century fortress, so remnants of what were once key defensive structures still remain within the city. These ruins not only bear witness to a long history but also reflect the outstanding wisdom of ancient architects. The Aberystwyth Cliff Railway, about 237 meters long, opened in 1896 and is the longest cable railway in Britain. It is an important route up Constitution Hill. From the top, you’ll be greeted by a breathtaking panorama: the ancient castle below, the bustling harbor, the azure bay, and distant sailing ships dotting the horizon. In addition, the seaside is lined with pubs, fully equipped entertainment centers, and the spectacular Aberystwyth Arts Centre—none of which should be missed.
