Belfast Zoo is located in the northern part of Belfast. Opened in 1934, it spans 55 acres and provides a harmonious living environment for animals, allowing species from around the world to thrive and breed. With a diverse collection of wildlife, the zoo attracts approximately 300,000 visitors each year.

Belfast Zoo is one of the most popular paid attractions in Northern Ireland, home to over 140 species and approximately 1,200 animals and birds. The majority of the animals at the zoo are endangered, and the park has implemented a range of conservation efforts. It participates in more than 90 breeding programs across Europe and internationally, helping to save numerous species from extinction. The animals come from various countries and regions and are categorized into primates, mammals, reptiles, livestock, parrots, and other birds. Among them, there is a wide variety of parrot species, including the Blue-eyed Cockatoo, Citron-crested Cockatoo, Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo, Salmon-crested Cockatoo, Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, Long-billed Corella, and Palm Cockatoo. At Belfast Zoo, zebras and ostriches share an enclosure, and there are also many African hoofed animals, such as warthogs, mouflon, Nile lechwe, duikers, and elands.

Each year, Belfast Zoo introduces rare animals from other countries. One such animal is the pygmy marmoset, the world’s smallest primate, which has become a visitor favorite since its arrival.
