Norton Gallery

The Norton Gallery is an art gallery located at Queen's University Belfast, opened in 2001 and named after its generous benefactors, Martin and Carmel Norton.

Since 2001, the gallery has become one of Belfast’s most prominent and exciting platforms for visual arts, hosting rotating exhibitions of the university’s own art collection, as well as traveling exhibitions by local and international artists. The Norton Gallery presents up to six exhibitions per year and also coordinates the commissioning of new artworks for Queen's University.

The university’s art collection is incredibly diverse. Since its founding in 1849, it has been built through donations, bequests, and purchases, encompassing a wide range of artworks including paintings, publications, paper art, sculptures, furniture, metalwork, and silverware. These collections are displayed throughout the campus, with over 40 portraits alone hanging in the Great Hall — truly a breathtaking sight.

In 2004, the Norton Gallery joined the newly established Queen’s University Cultural and Arts division, alongside Queen’s Film Theatre and the Belfast Festival. The Norton Gallery welcomes over 13,000 visitors annually, including a significant number of international guests.
