Ulster Hall

Ulster Hall is a music venue in Belfast and one of the oldest buildings owned by the city council. It is currently a Grade B1 listed building in the UK. The hall is located on Bedford Street in the city centre of Belfast and is mainly used for concerts, classical recitals, dance competitions, craft fairs, and political party meetings.

Ulster Hall was built in 1859 and opened in 1862. It was purchased by the city council in 1902 for £13,500. For over a hundred years, Ulster Hall has hosted a variety of large-scale musical comedies and plays, bringing much joy to Belfast. Just a few blocks away from City Hall, it serves as the rehearsal and performance venue for the world-renowned Ulster Orchestra.

The most recent major renovation of Ulster Hall took place in 2009, reducing its seating capacity from 1,850 to 1,000. Although there are many larger music venues in Belfast, such as the Grand Opera House, Ulster Hall remains a very popular performance space and is considered to offer a more artistic atmosphere than those newer arts venues.
