The Grand Opera House Belfast is a first-class performing arts venue in Belfast, Northern Ireland, located opposite the renowned Crown Liquor Saloon. It was designed by Frank Matcham, one of the most famous theatre architects of the time, and has been a major part of Belfast’s urban life ever since its first public opening on December 23, 1895.

After its official opening in 1895, the Grand Opera House was somewhat forgotten for a period of time. It wasn’t until 1980, when architect Mc金斯 Treacy undertook its restoration, that the theatre regained its former glory. The architectural embellishments of the Grand Opera House are even more lavish than what is typically associated with Victorian architecture, featuring interiors adorned with red silk, gold-plated walls, and seating for 1,063 audience members. According to the Theatres Trust UK, “the Grand Opera House’s magnificent auditorium is one of the best-preserved examples of oriental-style theatre architecture in Britain.”

Since the day it opened, the theatre has drawn crowds eager to experience a wide array of performances in its opulent opera house — including operas, plays, musicals, pantomimes, ballet, the latest comedies, and musical productions. To this day, it remains bustling with visitors from around the world who come to see its shows.
