It was the first national museum to house a collection of royal treasures originally from the Tower of London and opened in 1996. Situated along the canal between Leeds and Liverpool, at Clarence Dock in central Leeds, the museum has four floors of exhibits, focused on themes including war, tournament, self-defence, hunting, and the Orient.

This museum is one of the most engaging in Leeds. Originally built to store armor and weapons transferred from the Tower of London, it gradually expanded to become a microcosm of Britain's military engagements and self-defense efforts over the past 3,000 years.
