Waving the National Flag at the Tour de France: Patriotic Beauty Emily Wants the World to See Taiwan

When it comes to the Tour de France, many people have heard of it, but the public may not know that beside the track of the 17th stage of this year’s Tour de France, there was a young woman from Taiwan vigorously waving the flag of the Republic of China on French soil, cheering passionately for a team that also carries a bit of Taiwanese spirit.

The Tour de France, which is highly anticipated by cycling fans every year, started on July 5 in Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK, and ended on July 27 in Paris, France. Over the more than twenty days of the race, elite riders from various teams always give their all, all for the chance to wear the yellow jersey

Although there are no Taiwanese cyclists in the Tour de France, many teams’ race bikes are made in Taiwan. To supportTeam Giant-Shimano,which competes on Giant bicycles from Taiwan, Emily, a beautiful Taiwanese woman, specially brought a huge national flag to cheer for the riders by the roadside of Stage 17 in Saint-Gaudens / Saint-Lary Pla d'Adet. The waving flag also appeared on French TV broadcasts alongside footage of the racers, and Giant Bicycle’s Facebook page even posted a photo of Emily posing with the flag.

In an interview with ETtoday News Cloud, Emily said that while local spectators mostly cheered with the French flag, “Taiwanese people should definitely wave the flag of the Republic of China!””

Therefore, driven by her strong sense of patriotism, she specially brought the flag from Taiwan to France and found a flagpole there to cheer vigorously for the riders. Emily said that the Tour de France is a globally watched event, and if she was captured on camera, people in many countries could see Taiwan. When she realized that her figure and the flag had appeared on TV, Emily felt that this would let the international community know that there are Taiwanese people paying attention to this grand event, and her family and friends would also be very happy to see it.

Emily came to France mainly to accompany her French boyfriend on a trip back home to visit family, so she stayed in the south of France and Brittany.
