Kunstmuseum Bern

The Kunstmuseum Bern is one of Switzerland’s most valuable art museums. It houses outstanding works spanning eight centuries, including 3,000 paintings and sculptures as well as nearly 48,000 drawings, prints, photographs, videos, and films.

The collection includes works from 14th-century Italy; Swiss art since the 15th century, featuring renowned artists such as Niklaus Manuel, Albert Anker, Ferdinand Hodler, and Cuno Amiet; and international paintings from the 19th to the early 20th century (Impressionism, Expressionism, the Blue Rider group, Surrealism). It also holds a particularly significant collection of works by Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, and Pablo Picasso.

The museum is famous for housing the world’s largest and most important collection of works by the modern art master Paul Klee. Exhibitions of Swiss and international art trends are frequently held here. At the entrance under the steps behind the main building, there is a courtyard (0 courtyard) that screens art films not shown in regular cinemas, as well as films related to exhibitions. The street in front of the museum is named after Hodler, the painter born in Bern.
