Located in Bern, Switzerland, the Zeitglockenturm (Clock Tower) is a medieval tower built in the 13th century. Having stood for 800 years, despite multiple renovations, the tower and its 15th-century astronomical clock remain Bern’s most iconic symbol and one of Switzerland’s top tourist attractions. Albert Einstein developed the theory of special relativity while in Bern. It is said that while pondering the meaning of time near the Clock Tower, he was inspired to understand that time is relative – leading to his formulation of the theory of special relativity, which forever changed how people perceive time.
