A Swiss man on the 8th set a new world record by jumping from an altitude of 8,000 meters without supplemental oxygen. Remo Leng, 38, ascended in a hot air balloon early that morning in the Aletsch region of Bern, Switzerland, then jumped wearing a wingsuit. He freefell for five minutes and landed about ten minutes later.

Leng’s team told a reporter from the Swiss News Agency that in preparation for the high-altitude jump, Leng had undergone intensive oxygen inhalation for half an hour before the attempt.

Wingsuit flying, also known as proximity flying, has been around for less than 20 years. Participants wear wingsuits and jump from launch points such as cliffs, tall buildings, or towers to glide through the air.

Because jumpers typically start from relatively low altitudes, the time available to adjust their position and deploy their parachutes is extremely limited. This sport is highly dangerous and difficult, classified as an extreme activity, and few dare to try it.
