The Historical Museum of Bern (Historical Museum of Bern) is Switzerland’s second-largest history museum. It was built in 1894 under the direction of Neuchâtel architect André Lambert. As the museum was originally intended to be the Swiss National Museum (the Swiss National Museum was later built in Zurich), architect André Lambert designed it based on models of historical castles from the 15th and 16th centuries. The exterior of the museum is a neo-Gothic-style castle.

As Switzerland’s second-largest history museum, the Historical Museum of Bern houses the most important historical collections and artifacts from Bern and Switzerland, spanning from prehistoric times to the present. In addition, it features permanent exhibits from Asia and Egypt, making it an important historical treasure in Switzerland. The museum boasts a collection of 250,000 items, including internationally renowned pieces such as the Königsfeld folding altarpiece, the Grächwil bronze jug, and a series of valuable ancient coin collections. The museum offers a tranquil environment where visitors can journey through time and space, experiencing the passage of history—from the hard work of Roman pile drivers to Einstein’s genius inventions. Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM; closed on Mondays.
