Bern is located in the central-northern part of western Switzerland and serves as the capital of the canton of Bern as well as the country’s capital city. It is the third-largest city in Switzerland, after Zurich and Geneva. The Aare River divides Bern into two parts: the Old Town on the west bank and the New Town on the east bank, with the Old Town having been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
