Lough Corrib is located at the border between County Galway and County Mayo in the province of Connacht in western Ireland, with most of its area situated in County Galway. It became part of the Ramsar Wetlands in 1996 and is also designated as a Special Area of Conservation in Europe.

Lough Corrib has a surface area of up to 178 square kilometers, making it the second largest lake in Ireland. It can be divided into two parts: the southern section is a smaller and shallower lake, while the northern part is larger and deeper, connected by a narrow channel. Nearby lies the renowned Ashford Castle of Ireland. The emerald-green, rippling waters complement the ancient structure, creating a uniquely charming scene. Small boats can often be seen on the lake, gently swaying on the shimmering water — a poetic and enchanting sight that captivates, fascinates, and stirs the imagination.

The area around Lough Corrib is also home to a variety of wildlife, including eagles, otters, martens, stoats, frogs, bats, and more, adding vibrancy and life to the tranquil lake.
