After this program takes effect on January 1st next year, Taiwan and Ireland will each provide 400 annual places for young people aged between 18 and 30 from the other country to participate in working holiday programs. In recent years, the number of Taiwanese applying for working holiday programs abroad has grown rapidly. Over the past four years, the number of applicants has increased from over 12,400 before 2009 (2003 to 2007) to the current figure of more than 57,000 — nearly a fivefold increase.
