Kildare Racecourse, commonly referred to as The Curragh, is Ireland’s most important horse racing venue. It is located on the Curragh Plain near Newbridge in County Kildare, less than an hour from Dublin. The racecourse and training grounds are situated at Junction 12 of the M7 motorway in Ireland and offer free parking. You can take a train to the town of Kildare, with free shuttle buses available to the racecourse on race days.

Few sporting events can match the excitement, glamour, and enjoyment that horse racing offers. Kildare Racecourse provides you with a unique experience—classic racing in the beautiful countryside of County Kildare, along with traditional Irish hospitality. From March to October, it hosts Ireland’s top-tier horse races, including all five of the country’s major events: the Irish Derby Festival, the Irish Derby, the Irish Oaks, the Irish St. Leger, and also selected races from the Irish Autumn Racing Festival.

The racecourse features a range of bars, restaurants, and hospitality suites, as well as a playground to cater to families. Most regular event tickets range from €15 to €20, but prices increase to €40 on Derby Day. Students and seniors receive a 50% discount, and children under 16 enter for free (excluding June 4th and 27th). The Curragh is also home to some of the world’s top thoroughbred trainers who use its excellent facilities to prepare horses for success in international competition. These include Dermot Weld, John Oxx, Kevin Prendergast, and others.
